BWLA created a new planting design for the overall property for this newly purchased property. The client renovated the house in Harrison, NY to accommodate their growing family and elderly mother. The existing house was updated with a new outdoor pool at the rear of the house and extensive deck to provide outdoor seating. BWLA designed all the new planting elements and worked to save many existing mature specimen evergreen and flowering trees. Existing mature plantings to remain were protected during construction and incorporated into new planting beds with a variety of evergreen and deciduous flowering shrubs and native perennials (1780 & 1782). New foundation plantings were designed to provide views of the flowering shrubs from the large windows on the first-floor rooms. Low growing evergreen shrubs and a variety of variegated leaved shrubs and perennials (1789 & 1790) were incorporated into the meandering bed on both sides of the front walk and along the façade of the house either side of the front door. In the back-yard plantings focus on colorful roses and perennials by the pool to provide summer color for the owners when lounging on the nearby deck and swimming in the pool (1800, 1802, 1805 & 1809). A large bed on the property line, containing new evergreens trees, flowering trees, flowering shrubs and native perennials, will grow and fill in to provide privacy screening from the neighbor’s house (1804).
