The new homeowners of this lovely vacation home near the beach in Westport wanted to add a pool and new plantings to a dated property. The concept included adding a 20 ft x 40 ft pool with autocover, a new Chinese granite patio and summer flowering shrub borders in the side yard that was enclosed with a wood and wire mesh pool enclosure fence to allow views out to the remainder of the yard. Overgrown trees and shrubs were removed throughout the back and side yards, and new summer flowering shrubs and perennials were added to the established planting beds providing summer interest and flowers. Additional taller evergreens were added along the property boundaries to provide more privacy where needed. A new solid board wood fence with a pedestrian gate was placed on the newly rebuilt stone wall on the property line, along the busy access street to the beach, to block views of the passing cars and to provide some sound attenuation yet providing quick access to the beach.
